The Project

Jackson Heights, Queens, is a hugely diverse part of New York City. The Jackson Heights Immigrant Solidarity Network is a volunteer group which works to promote immigrant rights, advocate for immigrants, disseminate information on rights and best practices to defend and protect immigrants, and organize events, forums and demonstrations to those ends.

While they had a Facebook and Twitter presence, JHISN needed a more solid web presence to both promote their activities and to collect and centralize communications with their followers and supporters. They also wanted to standardize their image across the social media accounts. And with the diversity of Jackson Heights in mind, the website needed to be multilingual.

The JHISN website has an Events Page, where the groups latest meetings and gatherings can be listed, as well as a News Page in blog format. There is also the ability to write and send newsletters, in a custom-built template, from the admin area. And users can switch between English and Spanish on any page where the translation has been provided. Further language additions are planned, too.
